Saturdays at 10 am on Zoom or streaming anytime

4/18 - 5/30

7 classes

Tap dancing is an art form that originated in the United States during the Jazz era. It was born out of Black rhythmic dance and European/Irish traditions.

The goal of this class is to learn some basic tap, get some exercise, listen to good music, and have fun! We dance to big band, jazz, swing, and soul music from the 1930s - 1950s.

Classes are held live on Zoom on Saturday mornings and are also available for streaming after the class.

The series will start from scratch for those who have never tap danced before and progress for the duration of the series. The class is meant to be repeated and is appropriate for those who want to brush up as well as beginners. More advanced options will be given to returning students.

Each class consists of a half-hour of exercises and a half-hour of a sequence that will put your new skills into a routine.

Tap shoes are helpful but not required. Leather-soled or smooth-soled shoes are recommended if you don't have taps. If you're wearing tap shoes, make sure you have a piece of plywood to put on a secure carpet to avoid slipping or damaging your floors while you dance. I have a few pairs of tap shoes to give away for free, so let me know if you need a pair. They've been donated for this purpose and I'd love to get rid of them!

If you are a beginner, you may take a drop-in for the first class, 4/18.

If you are not a total beginner, you are welcome to drop in anytime!

Don't worry if you have to miss the live class!

All classes are live on Zoom and also recorded for streaming later. When you register for the full series, you get access to the full class replays and routine videos online.
