What is Balboa?
Balboa is a dance style that originated in California in the 1920s and 30s. A subtle, sub-style of swing, it can be danced in a small space to a variety of tempos. Primarily danced in close embrace, Balboa can be woven right into your other styles of swing dancing.
10 - 11 am: Bal for Beginners - Stretch & Compress!
After learning the basics, we'll explore the stretch and compress dynamics of Bal using lollies, tossouts, and turns. Open to anyone; no Balboa experience required. (This is the starting point for newbies, and an opportunity to review the basics for those of us who are only occasional Bal dancers.)$15
11:15 - 12:30: Intermediate Balboa - Stretch & Compress Part Deux!
The theme of stretch and compression will continue with a deeper exploration of pop turns, roll-offs, and different exits to really make it fancy! (If you have previous Balboa experience, you don't have to come to the first workshop, but it might help!)Prerequisites: Basic footwork, tossout, and lollies (this will all be covered in the 10 am class)
